CONVERTING AVI TO MPEG FILES

Guys

does anyone know of any programs that convert AVI files to MPEG files? Or does it have to be done at the renndering stage. If so can Adobe Premiere generate MPEG files?

Not sure if they will have what you're looing for but try www.download.com they have quite a few graphics and video editing programs there.

All these MPEG encoders also have Premiere plugin versions:

Ligos LSX
Panasonic v2.x
Xing
Darim

or they can work as stand-alone apps. Beware though, do some research ... not all MPEG encoders are created equal!!

Depending what your target platform is, you may want to consider encoding MPEG4 using Windows Media Encoder 7 ... it is also free, but does not yet have a Premiere plugin.

Or there's DivX ;-) of course...

I think there's a program called VirtualDub, which can convert to different formats, and add some effects to it.

Hi Steve,
There is a program called MegaPEG that comes with Premiere 5.1. It is stored in a folder on the Premiere CD. It is a cut down version of the full MegaPEG. With the MegaPEG plug-in you can output MPEG1 files. Hope this helps.
